As time goes on, new developments in browsers are being created. The browsers we use today are improving regularly. Some time ago, in the early days of the Internet and IT in general, browsers did not support many features such as SOCKS proxy servers. Hence the need for separate applications with the appropriate functionality.

Nowadays, all applications are no longer necessary. Thanks to updates to our favorite browsers, they now support working with proxies and setting them up.

Working with SOCKS proxies in FireFox

  • To configure SOCKS in the FireFox browser, use the menu bar.
  • Open the Settings > Advanced menu.
  • Then select the Network tab and click the Configure button. A new window opens in which you must enter your proxy server information. Click Manually configure proxy service and uncheck Use this proxy server for all protocols.
  • Enter the proxy server data and click OK.
  • Verify that your IP address has changed, at http://ipleak.com.

Working with SOCKS proxies in the Opera browser (ver 13.0+)

  • Open the Tools > Settings menu. 2.
  • Select the Browser tab.
  • Click the Change proxy server settings button.
  • A pop-up window with the settings appears.
  • On the Connections tab, select your connection and click Settings
    (if you are connecting via a local network or router, click LAN Settings).
  • Check the Use proxy server checkbox, which allows you to set your proxy server options.
  • Then click Advanced. In the window that opens, enter your SOCKS proxy server information.

Click OK, and OK again in another window. Check your current IP address at http://ipleak.com:

Working with SOCKS Proxies in the IE Browser

  • Open the Tools menu, then select Internet Options.
  • On the Connections tab, click Settings.
  • A settings pop-up window appears.
  • Check the Use proxy server checkbox, which allows you to set your proxy server settings.
  • Then click Advanced. This is where you can enter your SOCKS proxy settings.
  • Click OK on each open settings window (3 times in total) to save your changes.
  • The settings are complete. Check your current IP address at http://ipleak.com.

Working with SOCKS proxies in the Chrome browser

  • Click the “Tools” icon and select “Settings” to enter the settings menu.
  • Click the Advanced Settings tab.

  • Click the Change Proxy Settings button.
  • A pop-up window with the settings will appear.
  • On the Connections tab, select your connection and click Settings.
    (If you are connecting through a local network or router, tap LAN Settings).
  • Check the Use proxy server checkbox to set your proxy settings.
  • Then click Advanced. In the window that opens, enter your SOCKS proxy server information.
  • Click OK several times to save your settings.
  • Check your current IP address:
